“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water” — W. H. Auden

Water harvesting is a technique that is used all over the world to reap the benefits of storing rainwater in the soil. There are specific procedures to follow to have success with water harvesting. At the LooseNatural course you will get to learn all the best practices to harvest water so that water can be available for humans, animals and plants, even through periods of droughts.

Come and learn the advantages of harvesting water with permaculture principles as they are helpful in the management and conversion of water. The real value of a piece of land is determined by the lack or availability of water. Without water we have deserts as nature is practically dead, however with an abundance of water we have rain forests that are the centres of the world’s biodiversity.

There are two essential techniques of water preservation on a permaculture farm:

  • Storing water in the soil and
  • Redirecting surface water to dams/lakes and tanks for future use

This Water Harvesting Course includes:

  • Providing shade,
  • Preparing windbreaks,
  • Planting cover crops,
  • Building ponds,
  • Constructing swales,
  • Positioning water tanks,
  • Constructing key lines,
  • Set up micro irrigation,
  • Preparing gabions,
  • Adding mulch.

Come and learn simple and practical permaculture techniques at LooseNatural courses and implement efficient water strategies on your farm or even on your little farm … your backyard.
